About goddamn time!
We’ve been waiting for Koei Tecmo to announce Dynasty Warriors 9 since forever, and now they finally have, via a livestream from Tokyo, which featured two brief trailers. Additionally, the publisher confirmed that for the first time in the history of the series, Dynasty Warriors 9 will take place in an open-world setting.
It remains to be seen how to strategy formula of the Warriors series will translate to an open world environment, but I’m guessing that it’s going to be more RPG than strategy.
Along with a ton of other gaming franchises, Dynasty Warriors never made it big in the West, but is absolutely huge in Japan. Total sales for the Dynasty Warriors series are numbered at 32 million, and its popularity has even resulted in a number of spin-off games which crossover with other franchises, including The Legend of Zelda, Berserk, One Piece and Gundam.
So yeah, although we don’t yet have a release date, it’s safe to say that Dynasty Warriors 9 is going to be huge.
