Dragon Quest XI

If you were looking forward to playing Dragon Quest XII in the near future, you might not want to get your hopes up. This is because creator Yuji Horii confirmed that the twelfth entry in the franchise is many years away. Speaking at the Cedec+Kyushu 2018 event, Horii was quoted as saying that Dragon Quest XII will likely focus on the theme of people striving to make their dreams come true, before abruptly stating that the game will not be released for a number of years. Read his full statement below courtesy of Dualshockers.

“People striving to make their dreams come true will probably be one of the themes in the game. But XII is still many years ahead, so, for now, you should play Dragon Quest Builders 2 which is coming out soon.”

Large-scale RPGs take notoriously long to develop, so it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that we won’t be playing Dragon Quest XII any time soon. It should also be noted that the Dragon Quest games are not usually released in the West until long after they come out in Japan, with Dragon Quest X not even seeing any form of US release. In other words, fans living outside of Japan will probably have to wait even longer until they can play Dragon Quest XII.

It’s not all bad news, however, because as Horii stated above, Dragon Quest Builders 2 will be released in Japan on December 20. Fans of the franchise should start wiping away their tears.
