Disney Removes Mulan, Antlers & The New Mutants from their Release Schedule

The New Mutants just can't catch a break.

Mulan 2018

In light of covid-19 concerns, Disney has moved (March 27), The New Mutants (April 3) and Searchlight’s horror movie Antlers (April 17) off the release schedule.

Disney is currently looking at other potential 2020 dates for these movies. This makes sense for Mulan, given the fact that China, which would have contributed tremendously to the target audience, has shut down virtually all of its movie theatres. Disney’s Black Widow, which is releasing May 1, 2020, will still carry on – for now at least.

The New Mutants (the unwitting victim of the Disney/Fox merger) is perhaps the worst hit by this decision. The film had already been delayed multiple times, jumping from April 13, 2018 to Feb 22, 2019, before being moved again to Aug 2, 2019. It was finally on track this year, getting an April 3rd release date, with Disney even releasing a new trailer for the movie this year, and now, it is derailed again.

This news comes after other movies with impending releases having their release dates moved as well. No Time To Die, which was original set to open in April, has now secured a November 25, 2020 release date. Paramount’s A Quiet Place: Part II (originally March 20) and The Lovebirds (April 3) are pushed forward to unset dates. Universal goes one step further by moving Fast & Furious 9’s release date to April 2, 2021.

With the coronavirus showing no signs of slowing down (even Hollywood’s sweetheart Tom Hanks has gotten it), and health authorities predicting it will spread into next year, we can expect more push-backs in release dates
