Disney Delays Black Widow, West Side Story & More

Some movies are still kept on their current release course of 2020.

Black widow

Disney has delayed most of its 2020 films, which includes the likes of Black Widow, to 2021. Exceptions to this are the movies Free Guy and Pixar’s Soul, which will still maintain their current release dates.

There are other films that are also delayed, like Death on the Nile, but still slated to release in 2020. I mean, we can’t say we didn’t see this coming, especially after the details that Mulan will only make half of what The Lion King made, and Warner Bros. Tenet not performing up to standards despite its tentpole status.

Films Delayed and their New Release Dates

Death on the Nile – October 23, 2020 to December 12, 2020

The Empty Man – December 4, 2020 to December 23, 2020

Black Widow – November 6, 2020 to May 7, 2021

The Eternals – February 12, 2021 to November 5, 2021

Shang Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings – May 7, 2021 to July 9, 2021

Deep Water – November 13, 2020 to August 13, 2021

West Side Story – December 18, 2020 to December 10, 2021

The King’s Man – February 26, 2021 to February 12, 2021

What About Free Guy and Pixar’s Soul?

Disney didn’t offer any reason as to why Ryan Reynolds’ Free Guy and Pixar’s Soul are still staying the course, though there is speculation that Pixar’s Soul might get a Disney Plus release instead of a theatrical one, following the likes of Mulan. Pixar’s Onward is slated to have an early release on the streaming service as well, so this move makes sense.

Disney is sticking to the family model, releasing films on Disney Plus that will appeal to families with young children, so parents might be more inclined to pay for the additional fee, since it’s cheaper than bringing everyone to the theatre.
