Controversial anti-cheat/tamper software Denuvo is being added to Sony’s PS5 Tools and Middleware program, which means that developers for PS5 games will be able to utilise the software in an attempt to prevent cheating and hacking in their games.
Denuvo Is Coming To PS5?
A statement from Reinhard Blaukovitsch, Managing Director of Denuvo, revealed the reason why Denuvo is coming to the PS5: “Cheating ruins video games for honest players. This can lead to lower engagement, game traffic, and shrinking revenues for game publishers. We are really proud to be able to help the world’s most talented developers to bring rich experiences for gamers on PlayStation 5.”
While the reason for Denuvo’s implementation seems noble enough, the software has come under fire in the past, as some believe that Denuvo actively affects in-game performance, bolstered by a claim from Tekken 7 producer Katsuhiro Harada, though Denuvo themselves have denied these claims. There’s also the DRM-side of Denuvo, with some believing that anti-piracy software can sometimes go too far and alienate legitimate, paying customers.
