Dead by Daylight: How to Play Cross-Play With Friends

Dead By Daylight
Dead By Daylight

Dead by Daylight is an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game that pits one killer against four survivors who must escape through the Exit Gates. Several well-known horror icons are featured in the game, including Michael Myers, Pinhead, and Ghostface, as well as plenty of original creations.

Dead by Daylight was developed by Behaviour Interactive and is fun, suspenseful, and sometimes downright scary. The game was released in June 2016 and is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X & S, Switch, and Stadia. You may be wondering if Dead by Daylight is cross-platform and if so, how to enable cross-play in the game.

Luckily, Dead by Daylight is cross-platform and allows all players, regardless of whether they use PC or console, to come together and try to survive the night or thwart the survivors’ escape. Check how to ensure you have cross-play enabled below.

DBD Cross-Play Guide

Although cross-play wasn’t initially available, Dead by Daylight has been cross-platform compatible since August 2020. This allows the game to have a very large player base and reduced wait times when queueing.

Currently, Dead by Daylight is available on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Stadia; the mobile versions are treated as separate games. Enabling cross-play is easy because it’s automatically enabled when the game is installed.

You can check to see if cross-play is enabled by going to the section labeled “Online” in the “Options” tab of the game. If the box next to cross-play is checked, then you’re good to go. If you see a small globe icon next to the “Searching for party…” text in the bottom-right corner of your screen when queuing, this typically means that cross-play isn’t enabled for whatever reason, and you can go check the box next to cross-play to enable it manually.

The only cross-play exception for Dead by Daylight is for mobile players. If you play the game on a mobile device, you can only play with other mobile players and not with players on PC or consoles.

How to Add Cross-Platform Friends in DBD

While enabling cross-play is very straightforward and typically automatic, you’ll need to know how to add cross-platform friends to easily play with them. This is also incredibly simple to do. You just have to add them to your in-game “Friends List”.

  • In the Dead by Daylight lobby, select the “+” icon next to your survivor.
    • You can also select the “Friends” icon at the bottom of your screen.
  • At the top of the window, you should see an icon of a person with a “+” next to it. Click this.
  • Enter your friend’s player ID.
    • The player ID can be found in the top left of their screen.
    • It’ll be their gaming name followed by “#” and a handful of numbers.
  • Type this player ID into the search box and click the magnifying glass icon.
  • Select “Invite a Friend” once their name appears.

That’s all you need to do to add a cross-platform friend to your Dead by Daylight friends list. This way you’ll easily be able to see when they’re on and invite them to your games.
