Following its release from Steam Early Access last years, survival horror throwback Daymare: 1998 makes its console debut today (April 28th) with its PS4 and Xbox One versions.

Originally conceived as a Resident Evil 2 fan remake within Unreal Engine, the official remake made the team at Invader Studios switch plans and produce an original title instead. A gameplay demo for the remake featuring the Police Station was published to YouTube and racked up quite a lot of interest.

Published by Destructive Creations and All in! Games, Daymare launched into 1.0 in September 2019 and has racked up mostly positive reviews since then.

Here’s the synopsis:

“DAYMARE: 1998 is a third-person survival horror game that recreates the mood of iconic titles from the ’90s, with a fresh storyline. An incident that turns a small town into a deadly zone, three characters to play with and little time to find the truth, before its mutated citizens abruptly end your mission.”

Daymare: 1998 might scratch the itch for those who were left disappointed by the recent Resident Evil 3 remake, or just those who want more survival horror in their lives. Check back very soon for our review.

Daymare: 1998 Price

Daymare: 1998 costs £29.99/$34.99 for both the PS4 and Xbox One versions via the digital storefronts. You can also pick it up physically as a limited “Black” edition from selected retailers.

It features no microtransactions.

Daymare: 1998 Reviews

There are currently no reviews for the game’s console port, but we will update this with all the Daymare reviews (including our own) when the embargo lifts. Its PC version does have a score of 62/100 on Metacritic however, with a lot of critics appreciating its ambition while being a bit too sloppy overall.

From our 3.5/10 review:

Daymare: 1998’s commendable ambition is unfortunately not matched by its budget, creating a jumbled and frustrating trudge through survival horror’s past.
