CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will be coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X & S, and PC this December, marking the first-time the next-gen version of the game will be available physically for consoles.
Releasing on December 5th, 2023, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will also be available digitally and comprise of the base game and the excellent Phantom Liberty expansion, which will sadly be the only expansion we get for the game.
Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will also feature the free Update 2.0 on disc, which never came to last-gen consoles. Players can still get a free upgrade to current-gen if they own Cyberpunk on prior gen consoles, though Phantom Liberty will not be bundled in like it is for Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition.
However, it doesn’t appear like there will be anything special about this new edition overall, which is a shame. The Standard Edition for consoles had a few little trinkets that weren’t necessary but were still super appreciated, so the apparent lack of them here is a pity. The press release also didn’t include a price or where those “select markets” are exactly, but we will update this once we know for sure.
It’s been a good couple of years for the Cyberpunk IP following its disastrous launch. Not only did Edgerunners go on to become one of the best single season anime ever, but Phantom Liberty and the 2.0 update made everyone collectively agree that Cyberpunk 2077 is now a Good Video Game at the very least. CD Projekt Red are now at work on more Witcher and Cyberpunk games, so it will be fascinating to see what lessons they learn — hopefully quite a few.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
