Crytek’s Free-To-Play FPS Warface Getting PUBG Style Battle Royale Mode

In news that can only be described as developers just following a trend, Crytek have announced that their free-to-play military shooter Warface will be getting a Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds inspired Battle Royale mode. Another victory for creative ideas and all that.

In a post on the official Warface blog, the developer have said that the new mode will launch as part of the upcoming update for the base game, but the mode will only run for a limited time. Once it’s finished, they will take on fan feedback, improve the game mode as a whole, and run it again.

Whilst the mode will take place on a new map that promises to be the biggest PvP map the game has seen so far, and will retain the key characteristics of the Battle Royale genre (last man standing wins, procure weapons on site with the play area constantly shrinking), it’s unclear if the mode will be 100 players like Fortnite and PUBG, or a more modest affair akin to The Culling.

If you saw the name Warface and thought “that looks familiar”, you might be one of the many console players who tried the game during its short lived and ill-fated run on the Xbox 360. Back then, the game relied a lot on purchasing weapons and revive tokens with real money, making the game almost impenetrable to most casual players. Needless to say, the game was discontinued after only a ten month run on the Xbox 360, but the game is still going strong on the PC.

Are you a Warface player? Are you excited for this new mode, or are you sick to death of games adding a Battle Royale mode? Let us know in the comments.
