The Criterion Collection Announces October Releases

The Criterion Collection is releasing a total of eighteen films in October. They’ve been quite busy. Here are some personal highlights, which I will make sure to get in a few years when I can find used copies on eBay:

A Double Dose of David Lynch: Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me and the documentary David Lynch: The Art Life are both being released, no doubt to cash in a bit on the current Twin Peaks revival. This is okay with me.

Festival: Criterion doesn’t release a ton of documentaries, so it’s always a treat when they do. This one chronicles those crazy Beatnik kids as they swoon to the tunes of Joan Baez, Peter, Paul and Mary, and Bob Dylan. Culled together from footage of the Newport Folk Festival from 1963 to 1966, this movie captures a turning point in American youth culture.

Sid and Nancy: The Criterion Collection loves Alex Cox. And I do too, so this is a win-win kinda thing. From the director of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and the cult classic Repo Man comes a tale of love, obsession, punk rock and murder.
