John Bradshaw Layfield announced last week that he will be departing the Smackdown Live announcers table after serving as colour commentator for the past five years.

Although this isn’t the last time we’ll be seeing Layfield, it does leave something of a hole in the three-man table, a hole which has now been filled by budding announcer and former NXT alum, Corey Graves.

A suitable replacement that will now be taking on the task of commentating both Raw and Smackdown – an odd choice, considering the whole brand split – a welcome voice that we’ll undoubtedly enjoy hearing berate Tom Phillips and Byron Saxton on a weekly basis.

In similar commentary news, 205 Live and Main Event shall also be seeing a new announcer join the show to replace Corey Graves. Perhaps asking him to commentate every single taped show would be a little too much. Respected ring veteran Nigel McGuinness, who has lately been impressing fans as NXT commentator, will be filling in for Graves, adding technical ring expertise to the panel.
