Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Released Today

Call of Duty Infinite Warfare

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare hits the stores today. Now, I know you’ve probably seen “that” rather unpopular YouTube trailer which has been universally panned but there’s a chance that today’s release on PS4, Xbox One and PC may actually tickle your gaming G-Spot.

You pretty much already know what the basics will be – shooting people and accidentally blowing yourself up with flash grenades has been a long-lived tradition in the series, however Activision have recruited Infinity Ward as the developer who taken the rather bold step of setting the game in the distant future.

As a result, the story mode will be set in outer space with zero gravity environments, and will allow players to visit different planets – and let’s give Infinity Ward benefit of the doubt and assume that when you reach those planets, there will be something to do there other than shoot rocks – and will feature no loading screens, keeping you on your toes and at the forefront of the action.

This will certainly allow scope for an array of weapons, space ships, some rather fetching combat gear, and interplanetary carnage and it will also feature mode called Zombies in Spaceland that allows you to slaughter zombies in a futuristic theme park (now, what doesn’t sound fun about that?!).

The concept has fallen foul of the COD purists who lobbied for a more traditional, boots-on-the-ground approach to machine gun rampages, however the good news for them is that the special edition version of the game will include a remastered copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which was widely regarded as one of the greatest first person shooter games ever released and set the bar for many first person shooter games of the PS3/Xbox 360 era.

In a market where Battlefield 1 has recently landed with huge success, Activision as a publisher will need to hope that this new take on their classic series will not only convince the purists, but will also attract a new audience.

You can pick up the special edition version of the game in many places and it may well prove to be incredible value for money – Infinite Warfare has already been named Best Shooter by Game Informer at E3 and was nominated for Best Action Game at the Game Critic Awards, so despite the early misgivings it would certainly appear that there’s an epic and imaginative experience waiting for gamers.
