There’s Not A Soggy Bottom In Sight In High Tea Frog’s Cake Bash

Perfect for those with a sweet tooth.

Cake Bash game
Cake Bash

I could easily say that Cake Bash is a game about fighting cakes and leave it there, but my editor would not be pleased with that. But in order to sell you on the concept I will say: Cake Bash is a game about fighting cakes. But there’s a little more to this game than just cake combat.

Cake Bash is a four player, party-style battle game. It reminded me of Gang Beasts in many ways, it manages to keep the same silliness and fun, but without Beasts’ purposefully frustrating controls. Choose your character out of various types of cake, from cupcakes to muffins, or even to the cake that describes me the best, the pink French fancy.

But it’s not all about beating the jammy and creamy innards out of your opponents; there are objectives in Cake Bash. One round had Jimmy and I picking up pieces of fruit and having to carry them to a centre dish filled with custard, accumulating points as we dropped them in.

Another round saw us competing to see how many toppings we could get on our bodies (this was in the game), but with the added factor of having your opponent knock them off you. But we were also the subject of hazards which set us back in our task, in this case, a pesky crab that made his way across the screen at intervals, knocking our toppings off. Bloody crabs. Don’t those dastardly crustaceans put you off.

Cake Bash is possibly the most fun I had at Rezzed and in my book it is already up there with some of the best party games out there today.

Cake Bash is due for release on Switch, PS4, Xbox One and Steam at some point in 2020.
