Simulator games are big business. So big, it’s almost out of hand. Sure, there are great simulator games that evoke feelings of really taking on the job at hand, like Truck Simulator, or Train Sim World. Then there’s the likes of Garbage Truck Simulator, Construction Simulator and Skyscraper Simulator, which really don’t sport the same quality of some of their peers. Luckily, Bus Simulator looks like it’ll be falling into the ‘good’ category.
Bus Simulator is exactly what it sounds like: you’re in charge of driving the bus, picking up passengers and dropping them off. Customers require very particular types of ticket as well as differing bandings such as single, daily or weekly. All this has to be done while keeping to your strict timetable, but that doesn’t mean cutting corners. Breaking the law and damaging the bus (and other vehicles) will all be deducted from your takings.
However you’re not just a bus jockey: you have to run the whole business. Route planning, buying and selling buses and staff management are all up to you to ensure the smooth running of your bus empire. The bus driving is generally realistic, but there are simplified options for those who wish for a more entertaining experience. The game will also feature support for steering wheels.
Bus Simulator also aims to be as authentic as possible, with detailed cockpits from four of the game’s real life bus manufacturers. The Unreal 4 Engine looks fantastic here, especially driving around in heavy rain — the effects look wonderful.
Bus Simulator is due to pull up on PS4 and Xbox One this year.
