Broken Hardys Have Delightful Weekend In Ring Of Honor

At Ring of Honor’s big non-televised Manhattan Mayhem show on Saturday, not only did Bully Ray make his ROH debut, making the save for former ROH Television Champion Bobby Fish after his match with Adam Cole (BayBay), but Broken Matt Hardy and Brother Nero also made an impromptu appearence.

After The Young Bucks had successfully defended the company’s tag team titles against the team of Lio Rush and Jay White, The Broken Brothers appeared out of the darkness, inciting the brothers Jackson to defend the titles again, right there and then. This was ahead of their originally scheduled (and hotly anticipated) Championship match at Supercard of Honor XI, which happens to be during Wrestlemania weekend.

In a huge shock, the Hardys dethroned The Bucks to win their first-ever Ring of Honor tag team gold. This is arguably now the team’s most notable championship win in the quest to become the Greatest Tag Team in all of Space and Time.

Taking to the mic post-match, The Hardys alluded to the rampant rumours of their return to WWE, claiming they had signed contracts with Ring of Honor and that their contracts may be bigger than The Bucks of Youth (although if that is true or merely for storyline purposes remains to be seen).

Still Reall To Us

According to the Wrestling Observer, the duo listed all the dates they would be appearing with ROH (worth noting are all prior to Wrestlemania), again prompting questions about the finer details of their contract. Whilst some believed it would only be short-term, keeping a WWE return on the cards, it is now speculated that the contracts are for a longer period of time than originally thought. Ring of Honor have apparently given The Hardys full creative control over their gimmick.

Whatever happens next, all eyes will be glued to the upcoming Supercard of Honor XI event, as the Hardys/Bucks rematch could be a very strong indication of where the Broken Duo go (or stay) next.

The inclusion of the self-proclaimed greatest tag team in all of Space and Time is a sure-fire way to help sell out their show, amidst the wrestling craziness that is Wrestlemania.

If The Hardys do stay, and there does turn out to be more to the contracts than just a short-term story angle, and they are indefinitely working for ROH (making North America the base of operations for the pair), this could be their ticket to working with New Japan Pro Wrestling (and maybe even The Elite) given the two companies’ working relationship.

Bully Ray, at the climax of Manhattan Mayhem VI, said that despite other offers, he came to ROH because he wanted to say he wrestled for the company before he retired.

Rumours had suggested he was set to return to Impact at the recent TV tapings, and was set to win the Impact Heavyweight Championship. But for whatever reason the company’s top belt was given to Alberto El Patron.
