Is Bray Wyatt Challenging For the Universal Championship At Hell In A Cell?

Would it be too early?

The Fiend 1

Bray Wyatt’s “The Fiend” character has been an instant success with the little taste that we’ve had so far. Since his in ring debut win over Finn Balor at SummerSlam, we haven’t seen much more from Wyatt other than an attack on Jerry “The King” Lawler. The rumored idea for the character has always been to not overexpose the character and keep each appearance as a surprise.

If the Twitter page of The Golden1 Center, the home of this year’s Hell in a Cell event, is to be trusted, then we very well could see Wyatt in the main event picture for the next pay-per-view. A tweet was sent out hyping up Wyatt for the show on October 6th. This is often done by venues to hype up ticket sales, but people in the business like Dave Meltzer have stated that this isn’t the case. Barring major changes, it looks like we’ll be seeing Bray Wyatt challenge either Seth Rollins or Braun Strowman inside the devilish structure.

This can be a tricky slope to go down with a new character that is this over with the audience. A win is almost a necessity unless you want the dangerous and mysterious aspect of the character to disappear. It also seems that a Universal Championship win would be very quick for a new gimmick.

The structure on Hell in a Cell fits so well with “The Fiend” character. His ghoulish face and horrifying laugh really plays into the overall visual of the gimmick. It will be interesting to see who is defending the title because the roles are very different. Rollins would play the hero trying to thwart the villain, but how the Strowman storyline would go could have various routes.

Strowman and Wyatt were famously a part of the Wyatt Family, which is where “The Monster Among Men” made his WWE debut. We could see Wyatt playing mind games with Strowman taking credit for jump starting his career. It’s hard to imagine a big and scary character like Braun Strowman getting scared of anything, so it’s difficult to see how these two would believably play off of each other.

In a time where the character might be the most popular character in all of professional wrestling, not just WWE, this has to be an exciting time to see the character getting so much respect. Very few people get a top tier title shot this quickly after a gimmick change so he has definitely rubbed some higher ups the right way. Whoever Wyatt “allegedly” will battle at Hell in a Cell, it is sure to be a violent and horrific affair.
