In an exclusive from Collider, Borat 2 has reportedly already been shot and even screened for a few selected industry people, and will be a full-fledged feature film.
There isn’t much known about the plot, but it seems that Borat can no longer operate under his previous guise of a Kazakh TV personality. People would know who he is now, so he would need to go undercover to conduct his interviews.
There are also no clues as to which film company is actually financing this film. Previously, the first film was released by 20th Century Fox, but since they have been bought over by Disney, and Borat clearly doesn’t suit the Disney model, it is unlikely that this sequel is being peddled for Disney. It is possible that Cohen still owns the IP to the character, leaving him free to find financiers of his own for this sequel.
Borat grossed US$262 million worldwide, and though Cohen went on to do movies like Bruno and The Dictator, none of these films were on the level of Borat. Currently, it is unclear if Larry Charles, the man who directed the first film, will be back for the sequel. Cohen has yet to respond to these reports on the sequel.
