The world of kids books and children’s literature is not one that I get to frequent in as often as I like. This comes from a combination of being busy, working and reading all the other books that get sent my way.
Made By Raffi shows something different from a saturated market of children’s books. The story follows Raffi, a young boy who does not have the conventional interests of his peers. They’re out playing football and teasing each other, while Raffi discovering knitting.
Knitting turns to be a big passion when Raffi discovers he has a talent for it. He helps save the day, and wins the admiration of his peers.
The most refreshing thing about Made by Raffi is that it challenges lots of the things that are considered conventional. It shows that it’s okay for young kids to take interests outside of the norm. Raffi’s talents and support from his parents show that we’re in a better time, and Made by Raffi is a good push into the front of progressive time, and perhaps maybe setting the benchmark of where books should be.
With the book focusing on Raffi’s creative pursuits, the art style nicely reflects the tone. Colour combinations leap out of the pages and helps the thematic approach of encouraging access to arts and creative approaches for kids.
Made by Raffi is a wonderful book if you want to read something different and share an important with the kids. Pick this one up if you’re looking to change a view or impart a lesson in one of the most fun ways possible.
