After a few days of teasing, Blizzard have unveiled a new origin story for the next Overwatch hero, Echo. Echo was confirmed to be an upcoming Overwatch hero ever since McCree’s Reunion short back in 2018, but now Blizzard are finally pulling the trigger on the character. Check out the trailer below.
In the origin story, we see scientist Dr. Mina Liao lament the fact that she created Omnics, and therefore inherently caused the Uprising, before being recruited by Overwatch to fight those Omnics. The trailer suggests an untimely death for the scientist, though her “Echo” has been left behind in the form of a highly advanced robot with an adaptive AI.
No details have been shared as of yet regarding what role Echo will play in the current meta, whether she’ll be a tank (unlikely), damage dealer (maybe) or support (more than likely) and what her abilities will be.
