Black Panther Surpasses $1 Billion At The Box Office

Black Panther

Disney’s Black Panther has now earned over $1 billion at the global box office, making it the fifth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to have reached the milestone, and also the first film of 2018 to have done so.

This comes after Black Panther earned an additional $41,136,000 in the US over the weekend, bringing its total domestic haul to a gigantic $562,015,601, making it the seventh highest-grossing film domestically. Overseas, it has currently accumulated an equally impressive $516,600,000, bringing its current worldwide total to $1,078,615,601. And whilst the Ryan Coogler-directed film has now opened in all territories, it’s still likely to continue raking in the cash before the end of its run. Interestingly, all the other MCU films to have surpassed $1 billion featured Iron Man, which means that the franchise will be fine without Tony Stark if the writers decide to kill him off in a future movie.

As with most of the principal characters in the MCU, the success of Black Panther means that we can probably expect King T’Challa to have his story told across a trilogy, in addition to appearing as a supporting player in future ensemble films. Chadwick Boseman will next be appearing as the now iconic character in Avengers: Infinity War, which will set the box office on fire when it opens on April 27, 2018.
