Birds of Prey Certified Fantabulous in Early Reactions

Could 2020 be a triumphant year for DC?

Birds of Prey

According to Collider, who has compiled a selection of Twitter reactions from the fans and the press who got a chance to see an early screening of the movie, Birds of Prey is good stuff. Now that the social media embargo has been lifted, people are taking to various platforms (mostly Twitter) to share their views.

Birds of Prey had a special fan screening in Mexico, made its premiere in London, and there was also a press screening. While the fans might be quick to laud it, the critics and movie industry people might not be as easy to please. However, it does seem that for the moment, Birds of Prey has impressed the people who have seen it.

Atom’s Alisha Grauso compares it to John Wick but with “a crazy funhouse filter” and “stuffed full of glitter and f-bombs”. The comparison does make sense given that John Wick director Chad Stahelski was called in to shoot some of the action pickups in Birds of Prey.

Kristen Lopez, a Rotten Tomatoes critic, praises director Cathy Yan and director of photography Matthew Libatique for creating “a visually distinct and luscious film that’s badass, funny and provocative”.

But of course as we all know, the tide can change anytime. Joker was praised at the Venice Film Festival only to take a dive later at the Toronto International Film Festival, so the fate of Birds of Prey remains uncertain, but promising for now.
