5 of the Biggest Games Still to Come in 2017

Super Mario Odyssey Hat

2017 has been a great year so far in terms of video games. For example, the release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Horizon: Zero Dawn and Persona 5 have made 2017 one of the best years in recent memory, and it’s far from finished. Here are the 5 most exciting games coming in the last quarter of 2017.

By the way, this list is not based on a survey or any scientific research based on algorithms. It is based solely on my personal interest and a little bit of people’s expectations, so if your game does not make the list, I apologize from the bottom of my heart (or maybe not). For those who don’t accept my apologies (which is completely understandable), here’s an “honorable mentions” list that will maybe contain your game.

Call of Duty: WWII (PS4, Xbox One, PC): November 3rd
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (PS4, Xbox One, PC): October 27th
Forza Motorsport 7 (Xbox One, PC): October 3rd
Gran Turismo Sport (PS4): October 17th
The Evil Within 2 (PS4, Xbox One, PC): October 13th
Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon (3DS): November 17th

5. Middle-Earth: Shadow of War (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Shadow of War

This one is really a personal favorite. I know that some people are suspecting a flop, that Shadow of Mordor didn’t really need a sequel, but honestly, I wanted this game so much that I couldn’t resist and I put the game on the list. The Nemesis system has been improved (even if it was already good) and the newly forged Ring of Power gives new, powerful abilities to Talion. Maybe the game doesn’t need a bigger map and more quests, but I’m sure it will give a boost to the saga.

4. South Park: The Fractured But Whole (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

South Park Fractured But Whole

If it’s not delayed again, we will see the newest gem of South Park in October. This RPG revolving around the South Park universe is the sequel to The Stick of Truth, which surprised everyone with its simple but effective gameplay. The theme is switching from fantasy to superheroes and you will play as the new guy (or girl) again. Oh and of course, swearing, insults and vulgarities will take place; it’s South Park after all.

3. Star Wars Battlefront 2 (PS4, Xbox One)

Star Wars Battlefront

With the mainstream popularity of the first Battlefront game, there’s no doubt that expectations are high. Critics were a little harsh towards the first episode, but there’s a new, very important feature that will maybe change the game and the critics’ opinion: single-player campaign. The already vast Star Wars universe and the success of the previous installment of Battlefront will make this episode an instant success.

2. Assassin’s Creed: Origins (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Assassin's Creed Origins

Taking a well-needed one year break, the Assassin’s Creed saga is coming back with a possible bomb. Ubisoft is going back to the origins of the assassins in Ancient Egypt and we already imagine ourselves synchronizing the map on top of the pyramids or the Sphinx. If you didn’t watch any of the trailers, go give it a look and it will probably convince you. After games going not hitting expectations (I’m strongly looking at you, Unity), Assassin’s Creed Origins will (maybe) emerge victorious in 2017’s sales.

1. Super Mario Odyssey (Switch)

Unless you don’t have Facebook or you live in the middle of the ocean with no internet, you already know that Mario is coming back in a brand new game. It will be the first mainline open-world Mario game since 2002 with Gamecube’s Super Mario Sunshine (15 years is too long). We will play as Mario (no, really?) and you will try to defeat Bowser (seriously?). To defeat him, you will have to go through many different worlds with his special hat, named the Odyssey. You will have to collect Power Moons to upgrade the Odyssey and go further until you reach Bowser. Classic Mario plot, a classic Mario genre for an instant classic.
