Batman Arkham Collection

If you’re a fan of superheroes and crime fighting, then look no further than the Batman: Arkham series, as it tells a gripping narrative with addictive gameplay that lets you scale and explore the city of Gotham, both on foot and in the front seat of the Batmobile.

It’s not just a bunch of amazing Batman games; it’s one of the best superhero and DC series ever made. Rocksteady Studios really captures the gritty and dark tone of Bruce Wayne’s Batman and immerses the player in the criminal underworld featuring some of DC’s most iconic characters.

There’s so many Arkham games out there that it can be daunting to decide in what order to play them. Whether you want to play them chronologically or via release, this guide has you covered to clear up any confusion you may otherwise have.

For those jumping into the suit for the first time and wondering what all the fuss is about or just wanting to know what the latest Arkham games are, then this list is for you.

All games released in the Arkham universe are included in this list, and yes, that does include spinoffs, a non-canon mobile game, as well as remasters.

  • Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009)
  • Batman: Arkham City (2011)
  • Batman: Arkham City Lockdown (2011)
  • Batman: Arkham Origins (2013)
  • Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate (2013)
  • Batman: Arkham Knight (2015)
  • Batman: Arkham Underworld (2016)
  • Batman: Arkham VR (2016)
  • Batman: Return to Arkham (2016)
  • Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (2024)

Despite some of these games on this list being set before others (like the Origins narrative occurring before Asylum), the overall story isn’t affected aside from a few references. It is released in order, after all, so you won’t find yourself getting confused or feeling like you’ve missed huge story beats.

Keep in mind that Batman: Arkham Underworld is non-canon, so it can be ignored for the sake of narrative reasons. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is also featured on this list, as Rocksteady Studios has confirmed it is part of the Arkhamverse. While you may not be playing as Batman in this new instalment, his character is featured in his own reveal trailer.

Batman: Arkham Chronological Order

For those replaying the series or looking to unravel the sinister plots that fester in Gotham, the chronological order for following the canon storyline is recommended for you:

  • Batman: Arkham Origins (2013)
  • Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate (2013)
  • Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009)
  • Batman: Arkham City Lockdown (2011)
  • Batman: Arkham City (2011)
  • Batman: Arkham VR (2016)
  • Batman: Arkham Knight (2015)
  • Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Please note that any remasters or mobile games that don’t impact the story of the Arkhamverse are not featured on the chronological order list.

While it may appear a little jumbled from the release order, the story itself is littered with references, adding extra value to the narrative by playing chronologically.
