At the Drive-In Tease Comeback, New Music?

At the Drive In comeback new music

There were a murmuring back at the tail end of last year, when out of nowhere At the Drive-In were suddenly on the bill for Rock on the Range Festival in Ohio this coming May. There was no big announcement, just an unassuming post via the festival’s Facebook page, but this came as quite a contradiction to the band’s statement that the gig they played in London’s Brixton Academy, on their 2012 reunion tour would be their last ever.

Further confusion arrived when the local newspaper of the band’s native El Paso got in touch with guitarist and co-founder Jim Ward, who seemed equally as surprised as the rest of us. He even went so far as to ask the paper, ‘let me know what you hear’, in relation to the reunion. A clever ruse or something more? Who knows. Though, we likely will soon.

Yesterday the band posted a video, that is definitely teasing us toward… something. Admittedly, it really is a tease in the vaguest sense of the word, because the band have given literally nothing away except for a date. The 15 second clip simply plays out alongside a snippet of what seems to be new music, and closes on the display of ‘1.21.16’ (fucking Yanks and their wrong way round dates).

Whatever the band are announcing tomorrow, there are a lot of grown up hardcore kids eagerly awaiting with baited breath. There’s almost certainly a tour to be announced, given the band have been confirmed for a gig in Atlanta. Could this coincide with a release of new material? An EP or better yet a new album? We’ll find out soon enough.

However, given Jim Ward’s previous confusion, who will even be At the Drive-In come whatever may tomorrow?
