Assassin’s Creed Origins Pre-Order Guide: Which Is Best For You?

AC Origins 2
See? Camel.

As a huge fan of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise and after a year without, you can bet that I’m looking forward to the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Origins. The Assassin’s Creed games often come with some very cool collectibles and this time is no different. In fact, there are so many different editions of the game that the trouble is deciding which one to get. So here’s a guide of what Ubisoft has to offer.

Assassin’s Creed Origins Standard Edition

AC Origins

Just the game without any extra gear, missions or physical collectibles. However, given what’s been revealed about Assassin’s Creed Origins so far, even the standard edition promises to be pretty spectacular.

You’ll also have the added benefit of not spending your cash on those extras until later reviews let you know if they’re worth it. Given Ubisoft’s history with add-ons in Assassins Creed Unity, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and even For Honor, it’d be perfectly reasonable to do this.

But me? I like stuff. So let’s get to the extras.

Assassin’s Creed Origins Deluxe Edition

AC Origins Deluxe Edition

The Deluxe Edition comes with a few in-game items, 3 ability points for that early game boost and an extra side mission (plus an additional one if you pre-order). Includes:

– Eye of Apep
– Legendary Snake Shield
– Desert Cobra Outfit
– Fangs Horse Companion
– 3 Bonus Ability Points
– Fang Sickle Sword
– Naval Mission: Ambush at Sea
– Pre-Order Mission: Secrets of the First Pyramids

Assassin’s Creed Origins Gold Edition

Assassin's Creed Origins Gold Edition

The same as the Deluxe Edition except it’s digital-only and includes the Season Pass for a little cheaper than if bought separately (is it worth it? More on that later!). Theres also a Gold Steelbook Edition if you want everything below and a physical copy of the game in a stylish metal case, however, that’s not available everywhere. Includes:

– Eye of Apep
– Legendary Snake Shield
– Desert Cobra Outfit
– Fangs Horse Companion
– 3 Bonus Ability Points
– Fang Sickle Sword
– Season Pass
– Naval Mission: Ambush at Sea
– Pre-Order Mission: Secrets of the First Pyramids

Pretty cool so far, right? Sure, but like I said, I like stuff and some of the physical things you get in the higher end editions of Assassin’s Creed Origins thrill me like the fanboy I am.

Assassin’s Creed Origins God’s Collector’s Edition

AC Origins Collector's Edition

The God’s Collector’s Edition has all the things that come with the Deluxe Edition of the game plus some physical extras to enjoy. Along with the artbook, map and official soundtrack, you get a dramatic Bayek figurine perched on top of an Egyptian statue. Includes:

– Deluxe Edition of the game
– Printed map
– Art book
– Official soundtrack
– 10.2” Bayek figurine

I was planning on buying this version until I noticed that it DOESN’T include the Season Pass. That seems really strange considering you get quite a few extras and the Season Pass in the next edition for not too big of a bump in price.

Assassin’s Creed Origins Dawn of the Creed Collector’s Edition

Assassin's Creed Origins

The Dawn of the Creed Edition is a bigger and better version of the God’s Collector’s edition. Not only do you get a more dynamic Bayek figurine complete with his hawk Senu, you get a replica of Bayek’s amulet, Steelbook game case and two random yet undoubtedly beautiful art cards. Includes:

– Steelbook Gold Edition of the game
– Season pass
– Printed map
– Artbook
– Official soundtrack
– Art cards
– 15.4” Bayek figurine
– Bayek’s Eagle amulet

But maybe you’ve got the kind of cash to go even bigger? Ubisoft has got you covered.

Assassin’s Creed Origins Dawn of the Creed Legendary Collector’s Edition

AC Origins Legendary Collector's Edition

The most expensive edition of the game (by several hundred dollars in every region’s market) is everything in the Dawn of the Creed Collector’s Edition but better. The Bayek and Senu figure is larger and in much more vivid detail. You also get two steelbook cases, a set of 4 larger lithographs to go with the art cards and a better quality version of Bayek’s Eagle skull amulet.

– High-end Bayek & Senu Figurine (height 28.7 inches) including a certificate of authenticity
– The Assassin’s Creed Origins Gold Edition (Digital Download on PC)
– Printed Map
– Premium Collector’s Case
– Premium Bayek’s eagle skull amulet
– Two steelbooks including the one from the Gold Edition and an exclusive extra one
– Art book
– Official game soundtrack
– Art cards
– Four 15 x 11 Lithographs

If you are planning on getting this edition, you’ll want to hurry as there are only 999 available and only 200 of them in North America. Unconfirmed reports also suggest that all of this edition may have already sold out. Still, as every Assassin’s Creed fan knows, nothing is true, everything is permitted, so give it a shot and you might just get lucky.

Other editions

Different stores also offer their own exclusive editions. These sometimes come with collectibles that are normally sold separately and often at slightly better prices for certain store members. Most pre-orders at these stores will get you the Secrets of the First Pyramids mission but some might also give you a few other goodies besides.

Season Pass

AC Origins 3

This was a biggie for me. Is the Season Pass worth it? Ok, here it is. I’m old. I’m from that generation of gamers that hates DLC with a passion because I grew up in a time where skins and gear upgrades were earned not bought. It was part of playing the game and you know, the fun. I also think it’s reasonable to expect content that’s made before the game gets released to be included in the game on release, particularly if it’s fairly small.

It’s also worth mentioning that Ubisoft’s track record with DLCs and microtransactions has been pretty spotty given incidents like the Rainbow Six debacle or the pay-to-maybe-win-or-just-look-cool situation that brought down For Honor and crippled the potential success of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

That said, if any of their season passes were worth getting, it would likely be this one.

The game looks spectacular so far and Ubisoft has clearly made good use of the extra development time from the franchise taking a break last year. Ubisoft has also shown time and again that they know what works in their games and contribute improved versions of those successes, like Assassin’s Creed’s naval warfare or Far Cry Primal’s owl mechanic, to their later products.

Most of all and given their recent negative history, there’s definitely pressure on Ubisoft to get it right this time and from what I’ve seen of the game, there’s a good chance that they will.

Assassin’s Creed Origins is due to be released on 27th October 2017 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
