Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey Reviews – What The Critics Are Saying

Odyssey

Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey will be launching on PS4, Xbox One and PC on Friday, giving players more of that massive open-world exploration found in Origins. Of course, because we’re the social pariahs of the gaming industry, we haven’t been privy to a review copy, but a bunch of other sites were. Here’s what they had to see about one of the biggest games of this year that isn’t Red Dead Redemption 2.

Eurogamer (Tom Phillips) – Recommended

Colossal in size, lavish in scope, Odyssey feels like a series landmark and Ubisoft’s biggest ever game.

RPG SITE (Kazuma Hashimoto) – 7/10

AC Odyssey

If you enjoyed Assassin’s Creed Origins or want a game you easily sink over eighty hours in through exploration alone you will probably enjoy Odyssey, but if you’ve grown tired of the general monotony of the series you might want to wait until Ubisoft does something more innovative with this IP.

Destructoid (Brett Makedonski) – 9/10

AC Odyssey

A hallmark of excellence. There may be flaws, but they are negligible and won’t cause massive damage.

VG24/7 (James Billcliffe) – Review in Progress

Without doubt, Odyssey is one of the biggest and best Assassin’s Creed games there’s ever been.

The improved combat and compelling loot system have made its huge world a joy to explore so far – and it’ll be exciting to see what side quests are left out there to find, as well as whether it can sustain the same level of quality for its whole duration.

GAMESRADAR+ (Sam Loveridge) – 5/5

No-one’s made an open-world RPG with this much depth and brilliance since The Witcher 3. This really is the ultimate Creed.

Gamespot (Alessandro Fillari) – 8/10

While its large-scale campaign–clocking in at over 50 hours–can occasionally be tiresome, and some features don’t quite make the impact they should, Odyssey makes great strides in its massive and dynamic world, and it’s a joy to venture out and leave your mark on its ever-changing setting.

Game Informer (Joe Juba) – 8.3/10

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey aims high in its attempts to blend innovative additions with returning features. The execution might be uneven, but Ubisoft Quebec ultimately strikes a successful balance among the many parts.

Videogamer (Mike Harradence) – 8/10

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey sees the franchise at its strongest and most ambitious yet. With a compelling story, solid RPG mechanics, and heaps of content to soak up, you’ll be spending months immersed in its sprawling Greek sandbox.
