Apple Could Be Spending Up To $500 Million On Apple Arcade

Apple are investing a lot into games for Apple Arcade.

Apple Arcade

A few weeks ago Apple revealed that it was working on a new initiative for its mobile platforms. Apple Arcade will be a subscription based service that houses high quality games, which are often outshone on the traditional App Store by free-to-play titles.

Reports from the Financial Times suggest that the company could be investing as much as $500 million into the service.

According to sources, Apple is funding dozens of titles that will be exclusive to this new platform and several of them have budgets that run to millions of dollars. While this type of funding isn’t unusual for big releases, it is remarkable for smaller mobile games that will be primarily played on portable devices.

There have already been a number of titled confirmed for Apple Arcade. These include the likes of Shantae 5, Lego Brawls, and Sonic Racing. It is unclear which titles will be exclusive to the service or whether they have received any funding from Apple.

Apple Arcade will launch later this year, although no prices have yet been announced.
