Another Tremors TV Show Adds To The Graboid Cinematic Universe (GCU)

The Albuquerque Journal is reporting that Kevin Bacon has agreed to come back to the Tremors franchise in a new TV pilot. This will be the second Tremors TV series, the first of which was released in 2003 and lasted for one season.

What I find most interesting about this news is that after five movies (with the sixth to be released next year) and a TV show, the Tremors franchise hasn’t been rebooted since the initial film came out in 1990. I mean, one would think the temptation would be there, seeing as how it would be the easiest thing in the world to reboot a franchise where the villains are giant people-eating worms. But characters from the original film just keep returning, especially Michael Gross, who is perhaps best known as the hippie dad on the 80’s sitcom Family ties.

I’ve only seen the original movie (seems like that was really all there needed to be said on the subject), but I’m a big fan. I wore out the VHS tape watching the movie on repeat as a kid. It was a movie about giant-fucking-worms eating people, after all. Kids love that kind of stuff. Plus, let’s not forget that Tremors featured the most badass Reba McEntire gunfight ever committed to film:

No release date for the series as yet, since it’s just now gone into pre-production with a script from Vincenzo Natali, the writer-director behind the cult sci-fi films Cube and Splice.
