For those who missed the Pokémon Direct livestream, or simply want to read all the relevant information because they can’t watch a 15 minute video while they’re in work, we’ve compiled all the relevant details from today’s stream regarding Pokémon Sword and Shield. Essentially, the reddit leak from a few hours ago was true, but let’s break it down anyway.
You can bike, fish and jetski when roaming the world.
There are rifts which contain giant Pokémon, which you can attempt with other Pokémon trainers in Max Raid Battles. You can then catch and use said Pokémon in a stadium battle, basically turning Pokémon into a Kaiju collection game. We’re here for it.
There’s a Pokémon playing hopskotch. This is too cute.
Pokémon battles are the most entertaining part of Galar Region.
New Pokémon announced include Wooloo, Gossifleur, Drednaw and Corviknight (can be used as a fast travel system).
Gossifleur can evolve into Eldegoss, which is essentially a flower turning into a pollinated flower.
Plenty of returning Pokémon, because of course.
Galar Region has a Wild Area between cities, filled with wide variety of Pokémon.
While roaming the Wild Area, you have complete control of your camera.
Giant Pokémon is a phenomenon called Dynamax, which will promote new strategies in battle.
Can be used once per battle, will buff all your moves but will run out after three turns.
Four players take on Max Raid Battles, where a Pokémon is in Dynamax Mode for an entire battle. Players will have the opportunity to catch the Pokémon if the battle goes well. Will be supported by local wireless and online play, if you’ve got an Online subscription anyway.
The current champion is Leon, he’s undefeated, and we have a bit of a man crush on him. His younger brother, Hop, will be your rival during the game.
Professor Magnolia and Sonia are your mentors during the game, who will dole out advice during your adventure while investigating the Dynamax phenomenon.
Gym Leader Milo is your grass type Gym, and all Gyms and Gym leaders have Dynamax’d Pokémon.
The Legendaries are Wolves, and they’re such good boys. Zacian and Zamazenta are their names. One has a shield face, and one has a sword in its mouth, because of course. We must have them. If there’s plushies, we’ll take 20.
Pokémon Sword and Shield will be available worldwide on November 15th, and you can pre-order a special double pack.
And that’s everything. We’ve linked the video down below if you want to check that out. What are your thoughts? Sound off in the comments.
