Hold Onto Something, Alfred Hitchcock — Vertigo Gets PC Release Date

Here’s hoping this game isn’t for The Birds -- or gamers could go Psycho. Get it?

Alfred Hitchcock Vertigo

Alfred Hitchcock — Vertigo developer Pendulo Studios and publisher Microids have announced that the adaptation of the classic film will be released on PC on December 16th, with console editions to follow next year.

According to Microids, here is the premise of the game:

“In Alfred Hitchcock – Vertigo, dive into a new kind of psychological thriller, and walk on a thin line between reality and fantasy.

Writer Ed Miller came out unscathed from his car crash down into Brody Canyon, California. Even though no one was found inside the car wreckage, Ed insists that he was traveling with his wife and daughter. Traumatized by this event, he begins to suffer from severe vertigo. As he starts therapy, he will try to uncover what really happened on that tragic day.”

The press release says that the game is “an exclusive, original story about obsession, memory, manipulation and madness, freely inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece, Vertigo,” suggesting key differences from the feature film, and a shared style and atmosphere, rather than a one-to-one adaptation.

Vertigo will also involve players viewing events from multiple characters’ perspectives and cross-checking multiple timelines to connect the dots and figure out the truth — all the better for players to tap into their inner Jimmy Stewart.

The game’s title, Alfred Hitchcock– Vertigo, suggests that other playable thrillers might be in the works. Perhaps we’ll get a video game version of Rope, which tries to do the God of War-style ‘one unbroken shot’ gimmick?

Is Vertigo Coming to Consoles?

Vertigo will also come to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch some time in 2022.
