Age of Empires IV Announced at Gamescom

Age of Empires

Microsoft surprised everybody at Gamescom when they revealed the trailer for Age of Empires IV. Relic Entertainment, developers of many well renowned RTS (real-time strategy) games like Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War and the Company of Heroes series, will develop the first installment of the series since 2005. Of course, there was the free game Age of Empires Online in 2011, but that doesn’t count since it was more of a pay-to-win game than an actual full episode.

The trailer didn’t reveal much as the video only contains a sequence of drawings showing multiple ages that will presumably be playable in the game. No actual footage of the game is shown, so we don’t have any idea of the graphic or gameplay upgrades. Also, no release date was announced, but we expect a 2018 release at best. The only clue we have is the Windows 10 logo at the end of the video that would suggest that it will be a PC-only release.

Microsoft also announced that Age of Empires: Definitive Edition, the HD remaster of the first game, will be released on October 19th on PC.
