The American Nightmare in AEW.

The thing with rival promotions in wrestling is that you often see wrestlers defecting from one side to the other. For a long time, the pipeline was typically released WWE wrestlers making their way to AEW, but in 2022, the pipeline went in reverse, as Cody Rhodes left the company he helped found in AEW to return to WWE. Strangely enough though, the American Nightmare is still playable in AEW: Fight Forever, despite not being part of AEW programming for a year and a half. Here’s how you can unlock him in AEW: Fight Forever.

AEW: Fight Forever | How To Unlock Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes can be unlocked from the in-game shop for 10,000 AEW Cash, the in-game currency that can be earned from completing matches and finishing challenges. While challenges can be quite lucrative themselves, you can still earn a lot of AEW Cash just for winning matches. On average, you’ll receive 3-4K in cash for winning a match, so playing a few exhibition matches or starting the Road To Elite mode should give you all the cash you need to unlock the American Nightmare himself.

Once you’ve purchased Cody Rhodes from the shop on the in-game main menu, you’ll be able to use the Son of a Plumber in all of AEW: Fight Forever’s game modes, including exhibition, online and the Road To Elite mode. Considering that Cody Rhodes faced a stipulation in AEW that meant he couldn’t win the AEW World Heavyweight Championship, playing as him in the Road To The Elite could show you what could have happened if Cody Rhodes was allowed to be in title contention during his time in AEW.

About Cody Rhodes

One of the founding members of AEW alongside Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks, Cody Rhodes was originally an EVP of AEW, helping to steer the company during its formative years, while also appearing as a wrestler and on-screen talent too. The son of wrestling legend Dusty Rhodes and brother of current AEW talent Dustin Rhodes, Cody left AEW in 2022 to return to WWE and “finish the story” and finally become a world champion.

Unfortunately for Cody though, that story is still ongoing, as the American Nightmare came up short in a championship match against The Tribal Chief and seeming “forever champ”, Roman Reigns. Still, at least Cody Rhodes has the distinction of being the only wrestler to appear in both WWE 2K23 and AEW: Fight Forever. Roman Reigns could never.
