Rockstar have today revealed more info on the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2. We’ve seen new screenshots and mechanics in recent times, but now it’s time for the all-important selling point: the animals that you will probably be making extinct across the Wild West.
There will be a staggering amount of different animal species in Red Dead Redemption 2, more than enough to knit yourself a lovely cardigagn. Rockstar say it will be roughly 200; they did not provide an exact figure.
A lot of the species’ will be variations on what we see below, which is artwork for some of the animals that Rockstar shared with us. We particularly like the last one.
“The diverse habitats and climates of Red Dead Redemption 2 are home to around 200 species of animals, birds and fish, all of which behave and respond to their environment in a unique way. Deer, bison and pronghorn traverse the plains in large herds, scavengers quickly sniff out carrion, sockeye salmon leap upstream, wolves attack in packs surrounding their prey, geese fly in fixed formations, possums play dead, rodents scamper into tree hollows, grizzly bears bluff charge when threatened, and birds of prey soar on thermals. They all form part of a complex ecosystem and must continually fight for their place on the food chain.”

It sounds like a lot and there’s plenty of stuff to dissect from the official update on the wildlife in Red Dead Redemption 2. You’ll be happy to know that you can fish in the game, which means that we can say goodbye to a life of crime and live comfortably near a lake.
