REPORT: Battlefield V Is Bringing The Series Back To World War 2

Battlefield

According to a report by the folks over at VentureBeat, sources at EA have confirmed that the new Battlefield will follow in the footsteps of last year’s Call of Duty and return to the World War 2 setting. Instead of being called Battlefield 2 though, it’ll be named Battlefield V, which Eurogamer speculated that it could a reference to Churchill’s iconic “V for Victory” sign. No word yet on if DICE will be hauling Gary Oldman into the studio to play Churchill, though.

Of course, this news isn’t a surprise. Both Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: WW2 were huge success stories for EA and Activision respectively, with Battlefield 1 selling faster than Battlefield 4 and accruing 25 million players as of the end of last year, whilst Call of Duty: WW2 proved to be the highest selling game in the series since the franchise peak of Black Ops 2.

However, the VentureBeat report states that EA and DICE had been planning on returning to the World War 2 era for a while now, but decided to do a World War 1 game first to test the waters, knowing full well they could release a World War 2 game afterwards even if things didn’t work out.

Unfortunately, this news will disappoint those of you (us) who were hoping for a new Bad Company game. Battlefield: BC2 was the the best one and you know it. There was a rumour a few months back that EA were working on Bad Company 3, which would be set in Vietnam, but the report from VentureBeat directly contradicts that. We’ll get our Bad Company 3 sometime soon. Also, please be excited for Half Life 3 and Virtua Fighter 6. I’m not bitter. Shut up.
