American McGee’s Alice series is more or less the definition of a cult favourite. It’s never really come close to setting the sales charts alight, but the fans it does have are very passionate. That passion has helped American McGee to fund an Alice board game and film shorts through Kickstarter.

And he’s back again, asking fans for their help to pitch EA a new game in the series.

Tentatively titled Alice: Asylum, the proposal he’s pitching will include concept art, the business model, and more. He’s asking fans to sign up to the mailing list to show that there’s definite interest in the project, and is also taking donations through PayPal to help get it started:

“Fresh off the success of “Out of the Woods” on Kickstarter, American McGee will start work on a proposal for the next chapter in Alice’s adventures, tentatively titled “Alice: Asylum.” This proposal will include artwork, design outline, and financial/business model. When this proposal is finished (and assuming all the numbers and constraints make sense) it’ll be sent to EA. You can show your support for this effort by signing up to the mailing list below.”

There will also be weekly livestreams with the pre-production team, which will act as direct opportunities for fans to tell the team what they want to see from a new Alice game.

McGee previously stated that he was tired of taking questions about the future of the franchise, asking fans to let EA know instead:

“I HAVE NO CONTROL over the Alice rights, EA’s decision-making process, or anything at all related to Alice, Alice merchandise, Alice adaptations, etc, etc. EA are aware that you’d like a new Alice game and that RJ Berg and I would be happy to assist in the design, writing, and development of such. We simply need to wait until EA think the time is right for a new game.

“Please, stop asking me this question or questions in general related to a new Alice game. Again, I have no more control over this situation than you do. Tweet at EA.”

The future is a little less bleak for the Alice series, but as American McGee himself said, there will probably be a new game before we all die. Someone needs to tell North Korea to hang around for a bit.
