Surprisingly dormant for many years, Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic is one of the most beloved series’ that Bioware have developed and stands tall (the first game, in particular) in an elite club of the best Star Wars games ever made.
According to sources, Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic might be getting a reboot that is going to send everyone into overdrive, or rather, hyperdrive.
Unseen64 and Did You Know Gaming’s Liam Robertson has the scoop, which he detailed on a Patreon exclusive podcast:
“I’ve learned now that [BioWare Austin is] pretty much now exclusively working on Star Wars games and they’re going to be doing that for the indefinite future. What they’re currently working on right now—and I have this on good authority—is a sort of remake/revival of Knights of the Old Republic. I don’t know when this is set to come out, but it has been in development for a little while now.”
“I don’t really know how that game’ll end up. I’ve heard that it isn’t exactly a remake anymore, but it started as a remake/revival. Now it’s kind of going from that blueprint in sort of its own original thing. I guess we’ll see what that turns out to be, but they are prototyping it right now.”
Later in the podcast, Robertson said that it might not share the same universe as the old Knight games and instead focus on the new, Disney-fied era. While it’s hard to verify Robertson’s claims, he has a track record of being in the know about upcoming projects. As always, until either BioWare or EA confirm that’s happening, stay cynical. That’s the only way to get out of the internet alive.
Even though Knights of the Old Republic hasn’t had a new entry in a while, the MMO The Old Republic shares a lot of its blood, though it hasn’t been a resounding success. The developers of that game, BioWare Austin, will be rebooting Knights, according to Robertson.
A tonne of new Star Wars games are on the horizon, including the sequel to the Battlefront reboot and something from Titanfall developers Respawn. It’s unlikely that any of these will rival Star Wars: Masters of Teräs Käsi, but we can dream.
UPDATE: this is not true. Well, back to my dark pit of despair I go.
