I’m not sure if something might have been lost in translation, but definitive means when something is complete with all the bells and whistles that were initially expected. With the “Definitive” Edition of MGS V set to launch soon, many fans had one very simple question for Konami: will Mission 51 be finished? The answer was a pretty straightforward no.
Mission 51 should tie up a few of the plotlines that went in different directions without being concluded (much like TPP as a whole) and would have added some more playtime to what was already a gargantuan game. As the deadline loomed, Mission 51 was cut, taking some resolution with it. But, for whatever reason, the bones of it were included with the Collector’s Edition of the game, leaving many asking plenty questions of Konami and Kojima.
Fielding questions from puzzled fans, the game’s official Twitter account decided to break some hearts:
@NTPrime I'm afraid we have no current plans to further develop for Mission 51.

There are also other tweets suggesting that the game was completed and shipped as it should have been last year, which probably isn’t the answer many were hoping for. For anyone who wanted to own the early plans of Mission 51, you may want to go for the Collector’s Edition instead – the Definitive Edition won’t have it. Oh well, YouTube for you.
It’s been a rough month for the Metal Gear name, especially since the announcement of Metal Gear Survive: a multiplayer co-op game that seems to have little to do with Metal Gear. It’s been slammed across the web, leaving plenty of unanswered questions in its wake. Kojima won’t be involved, and that’s enough for most people to outright condemn it.
