Are You Still Playing Pokemon Go?

When it was first released, Pokemon Go’s popularity was absolutely crazy and unlike anything I had ever seen. The AR app reinvigorated the passion for catching ’em all and brought plenty of people together; those that would never meet if it wasn’t for this wild new game.

Fastforward a month and, although it’s still widely played by plenty of people, it doesn’t seem to be at the same level of hype.

I remember during its first week that you could barely move without bumping into a fellow Pokemon trainer. Pokestops were meeting grounds for people of all ages to come together to wade through the Weedles to find something rarer. The community spirit was nothing short of heartwarming.

After time, the people stopped coming to my local Pokestop. For what felt like forever, a collection of Pokestops near my house were constantly set up with Lure Modules, meaning that people were playing the game until the early hours of the morning – my street looked like a Prince concert. Whenever I look now, there’s one Lure at most.

People also don’t seem to be talking about it as much. When once I couldn’t scroll through Facebook or my Twitter feed without bumping into a meme or a bullshit photo of Mew, Pokemon Go posts are pretty scattered, appearing only occasionally and usually about Spark being a dweeb.

Pokemon Go trading
Still no sign of trading.

Of course, a drop in popularity for the hottest thing is always expected – you would have to be optimistic to think that the love and buzz around the app would last forever, but I have to wonder how much the loss of players has to do with the app’s faults.

This isn’t my turn to start relentlessly bagging on Pokemon Go, don’t worry. It’s just that I stopped playing it as frequently because of how buggy and lightweight it can sometimes be. The app often crashes and really needs some updates to keep it fresh for the long run. As much as I want to love it, I am finding myself going onto other things and gradually leaving it further and further behind.

Pokemon Go isn’t in trouble, not by a long shot. I simply think it needs to start doing things to win everyone back around before it just becomes the year’s biggest fad. I don’t think I’m alone in wanting more.

So, how about you? Do you still play Pokemon Go as much as you used to? Maybe you play it even more? Be sure to let me know on the poll below or by dropping a comment.
