When you’re nominated for an Emmy, you either win or you die. That’s never been true before, but now Game of Thrones has scooped both Best Drama series, and Best Supporting Actor for Peter Dinklage, maybe it’ll become the new norm.
This basically confirms to us all once again that Dinklage is basically the best actor who has ever lived. Dinklage has now been nominated at every Primetime Emmys since 2011 and this year marks the second time he’s won the award. After a season of Westeros that many viewers had nagging questions about the accolades will no doubt put the HBO series back on the Iron Throne.
Elsewhere, Mad Men’s John Hamm finally took home the Emmy for Best Actor in a Arama at the final time of asking. Viola Davis, from How to Get Away With Murder bagged Best Actress in a Drama. Best Comedy Series also belonged to HBO, with Armando Iannucci’s Veep getting the gong and Julia Louis-Dreyfus also winning big.
There were also awards for the soon-to-be all powerful streaming services. Netflix’s Orange is the New Black took Best Supporting Actress in a drama for Uzo Aduba while Amazon Prime nabbed lead actor in a comedy series for Transparent’s Jeffrey Tambor. Give it ten years and streaming services will probably own the Emmys altogether.
Anyway, that’s enough of me rabbiting on. Here’s the list of the main winners.
