Marvel Reveal When Jessica Jones Will Hit Netflix

Marvel's Jessica Jones

Marvel’s second Netflix show, Jessica Jones, will land on the streaming service on November 20th. Following on from the massive success of Daredevil, Jessica Jones centres on the titular character on the streets of New York.

The teaser trailer that came with the announcement doesn’t show much in terms of footage, but it does at least hint at what the show might be tonally. Check it out:

Daredevil was Netflix’s most successful original show to date, which might go some way to explaining why they’ve decided on November 20th. What else is arriving on November 20th? That’s right, Amazon Prime’s The Man in the High Castle.

Coincidence? Probably not.

Unlike Daredevil, which at least has some presence in the wider popular culture, Jessica Jones will be something of an unknown quantity for most people. Let me fix that.

Originally starring in Brian Michael Bendis’s Alias comic book Jessica Jones is a private eye with a superhero past. Without getting spoilers all over your nice clean monitor, let’s just say her foray into super powered crime fighting didn’t end well for her. Expect some of the show to deal with the traumas of her past.

That’s not to say, though, that Jessica Jones isn’t a total badass. She might be more of a street level hero than a god of thunder but she’s absolutely a good choice for Marvel Studios’ first live-action female lead.

Jessica Jones will be played by Breaking Bad’s Krysten Ritter alongside Mike Colter as Luke Cage (who will be getting his own Netflix show next) and David Tennant as the sinister Kilgrave. At some point we’ll also be seeing Matrix star Carrie-Anne Moss.

To put Jessica Jones up against something as big as The Man in the High Castle, Netflix and Marvel most be feeling pretty confident. It also means TV reviewers will be pulling double duty that weekend.
