Adachi and Shimamura: Season 2 – Will It Happen? Release Date & Story

Skipping lessons is supposed to spare you a few difficult questions. For Sakura Adachi, spending that time with Hougetsu Shimamura creates considerably more, particularly once friendship stops adequately describing what she wants.

Adachi and Shimamura, also known as Adachi to Shimamura, follows two schoolgirls whose shared retreat from school life becomes something more complicated. Its first season gives their relationship room to breathe, but leaves plenty unsaid. Adachi could probably do without the additional years to overthink everything.

When Is Adachi and Shimamura: Season 2 Coming Out?

Unfortunately, as of September 2026, there is no news regarding Season 2. The official anime website’s news archive contains information about the original production and associated events, without announcing another season.

The first and most recent television season ended on 25 December 2020 after 12 episodes. That was a single television run, rather than the opening half of an announced split-cour series. No subsequent television season, film or OVA continuation is listed in the adaptation’s release history, and there’s barely been a word on the IP as a whole since.

It’s not looking good for a continuation.

The source material continues beyond the anime, so there is more story available. However, that does not establish that another adaptation is in production. Equally, the absence of an announcement should not be presented as confirmation that the anime was formally cancelled.

What Could Adachi and Shimamura: Season 2 Be About?

While nothing is confirmed, a continuation could explore Adachi’s growing jealousy and Shimamura’s reunion with her childhood friend Tarumi.

The fifth light novel’s official description centres on the summer holidays. Adachi wants to spend them with Shimamura, only to discover that Tarumi has already made plans with her. That creates pressure for Adachi to explain feelings she has previously struggled to express.

A sequel following that material would have an emotional problem more substantial than simply arranging another outing. Adachi wants a particular place in Shimamura’s life, but wanting it does not mean Shimamura understands what she is being asked to offer.

The tension comes from that imbalance: one girl attaches enormous significance to their interactions, while the other approaches relationships with more distance. A second season could examine whether they can close that gap without expecting either to become a different person overnight.

Where Can You Watch Adachi and Shimamura?

In the UK, the series is listed on Crunchyroll and the Crunchyroll Amazon Channel, with digital purchases through Amazon Video and Apple TV Store. See the UK viewing options.

In the US, the same subscription services are listed, alongside purchases through Apple TV Store and Amazon Video. See the US listing.

Can You Read The Books While You Wait?

Yes. Seven Seas publishes Hitoma Iruma’s original light novels in English, including material beyond the anime. The English Volume 5 listing confirms the publisher and edition.

Yen Press also publishes Moke Yuzuhara’s manga adaptation. This is a separate adaptation, so its volume numbers are not interchangeable with the novels’. Starting the novels from Volume 1 gives you the characters’ fuller internal perspectives, including plenty they would struggle to say aloud.
