Confessing to your crush and accidentally becoming his manga assistant is a fairly poor return on emotional bravery. That’s Chiyo Sakura’s predicament in Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun, where the boy she likes writes romantic stories professionally but struggles to recognise one happening directly in front of him.
The adaptation of Izumi Tsubaki’s manga gives its misunderstandings an excellent supporting cast, all capable of turning ordinary school life into questionable drawing material. Here’s where a second season stands in September 2026.
When Is Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun: Season 2 Coming Out?
Sadly, there is no verified Season 2 announcement or confirmed release date. The original broadcaster’s website still just lists the first series, and there’s been no news on its return.
The first and most recent television season ran for 12 episodes, ending in TV Tokyo’s 21 September 2014 late-night slot, after midnight on 22 September. That scheduling explains why both dates appear in episode guides.
Six short home-video specials followed, but those are bonus episodes, not a second television season.
Nearly twelve years without another season is a substantial wait, but it doesn’t mean it’s actually cancelled. Equally, the manga’s continued publication isn’t confirmation that more animation is being made. However, as the months go by, we wouldn’t hold out hope on its return.
What Could Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun: Season 2 Be About?
Assuming a sequel continues the existing adaptation, Chiyo’s attempts to get closer to Nozaki would remain tangled up with his manga deadlines and spectacularly misplaced interpretations.
The supporting relationships offer just as much potential. Seo and Wakamatsu’s incompatible readings of their interactions could generate further romantic confusion, while Kashima’s attempts to win Hori’s approval rarely resemble sensible drama-club behaviour. These dynamics are already central to the original anime.
Mikoshiba’s confident flirting followed by immediate embarrassment would also deserve another outing. For someone who helps inspire a manga heroine, he could use considerably better dialogue himself.
Those are possible directions, not announced story details. A continuation could develop the friendships and romantic misunderstandings without suddenly turning Nozaki into someone qualified to recognise a hint.

The publisher lists Volume 17 as released on 25 August 2026, giving readers considerably more material to explore.
Starting with Volume 1 lets you enjoy the comedy in its original four-panel format. At least the reading schedule doesn’t depend on Nozaki noticing anything.
