News aggregator and social media personality Nibel (real name unknown), has made the announcement that he’s stepping away from Twitter and the coverage of gaming news. He’ll also be stepping away from social media, and is in the process of closing down his recently launched Patreon.
He’s privated his account on Twitter, but he’s keeping the account alive so no one can grab the handle for malicious purposes. You can read his statement here, but if you’re not following him, it reads: “After some introspection, I’ve made the decision to focus my time and energy elsewhere and move on from Twitter. This marks the end of my video games coverage and my active participation in this platform. Thanks to everyone for the fun times!”
He’s also posted a much longer statement on his Patreon account, which gives more details on his reason to leave. You can see screenshots of that below.
Man, this is depressing. @Nibellion did amazing work on this platform and it sucks to see him go. I do wish him the best in his future endeavors.https://t.co/E8itAKd19G pic.twitter.com/9HjtiFgmlT

On his Patreon statement, Nibel mostly credits his decision to step away to the Patreon account not generating as much support as he would have hoped: “Unfortunately, I was not able to create an interesting and sustainable Patreon which is evident in the number of Patrons stagnating during the first weekend and the first (of many) pledges being deleted during the first week. I have miscalculated the value of my Twitter activity and realize that it is nothing worth supporting by itself for the vast majority of people.”
Nibel’s decision to step away from Twitter and gaming news is also related to Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter. In his Patreon statement, he adds: “Then there is the elephant in the room which is the platform itself. I don’t think that Twitter has yet experienced good leadership, and this trend will not change with Musk either. I do not trust the platform, I do not trust Musk and his seemingly infinite immaturity. I do not think Twitter will fall apart instantly but that it could die a slow death. Why waste more time?”
Nibel joined Twitter over a decade ago, in May 2012, and at the time of writing has 446K followers. He made a name for himself on the platform for being one of the profilic news aggregators on Twitter. If there was a video game stream, or some important breaking news, Nibel was typically on hand to grab screenshots and collate all the relevant newsworthy points. We here at Cultured Vultures would like to wish Nibel all the best in whatever he chooses to do next, and his presence on Twitter will be missed.
