Kaiju Wars Structures Guide: Basics, Bases, Labs & More

The hallmark of any kaiju-centric experience is copious amounts of collateral damage to infrastructure, buildings, and installations. In Kaiju Wars, as the puny human defenders, your task is to keep the rampaging monsters away from stepping on too many buildings, while you research a serum to temporarily ward them off. Structures are vital to your success, so it’s critical to understand their functions and features.

Here’s everything you need to know about structures in Kaiju Wars.

Kaiju Wars Structures

Basic Buildings

The first type of structure is a grouping of buildings that all share common features and they’re typically shaded in a dark grey palette to discern them from non-basic buildings. The most important element of basic buildings is that they can’t be rebuilt, except through projects, and don’t act as spawn points or transport hubs for units. Essentially, whatever basic buildings you get in a mission are what you’ll have at your disposal to work with.

Basic buildings can further be split into resource non-producers and producers. Non-producing buildings have no value aside from attracting nearby Kaiju to have a snack and there’s no penalty for losing them. These are typically warehouses or other non-residential infrastructure.

Producer buildings typically provide some kind of resource, usually an income of money, science, or a combination of the two. Money can be used to build non-basic buildings, and recruit and repair units at spawn locations.

Science production will help in earning breakthrough stars, which are mission win conditions. These buildings are usually developed suburbs, highrises, and other built-up residential infrastructure.

Another resource some basic buildings provide is security, represented by a lock in the building’s tooltip. Security is a resource typically associated with non-basic buildings, so basic structures with a security rating are quite a novelty. Lookouts are usually the building that includes a security rating, so if it’s destroyed by a capricious kaiju, it’ll be easier for dark projects to hack your security rating.

Throughout a mission, a sinister force will be aiding the kaiju and their rampages by enacting Dark Projects, which can heal monsters, buff them, or hack the player’s security rating. Once the security rating drops to zero all kaiju will automatically focus their attention on the position of Dr. Emma Wagner and the current lab they’re in.

Harbour

While the harbour operates similarly to most basic buildings by providing money, there’s one key distinction that gives it additional strategic value. While it may not spawn units, it acts as a transport hub for Dr. Wagner when evacuating and moving between bases. If Dr. Wagner reaches a harbour, they can board a ship, which will allow them to move across the water.

Army Base

The first of the non-basic buildings, the army base is the spawn location for basic ground units, such as vehicles and infantry. Army bases can be built at foundation locations for a hefty sum of 12 money or for free by utilizing a project card if such a card is in your project deck. Army bases also provide a security rating and act as a transport hub for Dr. Wagner.

Airfield

Airfields essentially act exactly like army bases, except they spawn basic air units only. They cost the same as an army base to build, provide security, and act as a transport hub for Dr. Wagner.

Lab

If army bases and airfields act as mustering zones for unit deployment and as bastions to delay the kaiju and their sinister allies, labs are critical to victory and are the most valuable structure in the player’s arsenal. Unlike army bases and airfields, labs don’t provide security and can’t deploy basic air or ground units.

However, labs provide a source of science production and act as spawn points for special units, experimental vehicles with powerful special abilities to help fight back against the kaiju threat. In addition, labs can house Dr. Wagner if they’re forced to evacuate from their initial lab.

Structures essentially dictate the flow and movement of the monsters and areas of conflict. Now that you know what these structures do, will you work to save humanity’s expensive infrastructure from destructive kaiju antics or will you use buildings as bait to put kaiju in a disadvantageous position?
