You all knew this was coming. The sequel to Seth McFarlane’s astoundingly not-awful comedy Ted has been perhaps the worst kept secret in Hollywood. A trickling list of new cast additions has been building since last summer and with shooting having wrapped in November, we’re getting our first glimpse of Ted 2, or rather, Ted 2: The Absence of Mila Kunis.
Yes, the first, most evident thing about the new film is that Kunis appears to have been given the Dr. Sattler/Holly McLane/John Smith/Vikki Vale treatment and been subjected to an off-screen breakup. Amanda Seyfried is the new female lead and the trailer doesn’t exactly make it clear whether or not she’s any kind of love interest, not that it should really matter. Other new players include Morgan Freeman, John Slattery, Michael Dorn and Liam Neeson (although you don’t see him in the trailer). This time around the story seems more directly focused on Ted, with Wahlberg playing second banana.
Beyond that, it outwardly appears to be more of the same, which I have no problem with, the first film had a solid formula and it stuck to it and the idea of Ted bascially having to get himself declared legally human in order to raise a child sounds like it has a lot of wacky potential. It comes out this July.
