Tom Holland’s Uncharted, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, will be delayed to February 11, 2022.
Why The Delay?
This is surprising, considering how things were promising of late. The film is completed, official images have been released, and Tom Holland has been effusive in his praise about the film. But it seems that this delay is across the board for Sony films, with a number of high-profile films being pushed back to 2022.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife has been moved from June 11 to November 11, Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway is moving from April 2 to June 11, and Kay Cannon’s Cinderella is now premiering July 16 rather than February 5 as originally planned. All these delays are probably due to the coronavirus situation, which shows no signs of abating as yet, and will continue to impact the industry and movie releases.
Uncharted Story & History
The Uncharted movie is the first feature film from PlayStation Productions, a studio formed by Sony in order to adapt original game properties for film and television. The film is a prequel story featuring Nathan Drake as a young treasure hunter learning from his mentor, and won’t be following the plot of the games.
Speaking at CES 2021, Sony Interactive president Jim Ryan said the Uncharted movie is “just the beginning of the expansion of our storytelling into new media and even wider audiences.”
