Rap Monument: One Track. 30 Rappers.

Yes. You read that right. Vice offshoot Noisey and Tupac-approved Cognac house Hennessy have teamed to birth one of the longest, most ambitious tracks in the history of hip-hop. Helmed by Glaswegian producer and electronic pioneer Hudson Mohawke (a regular collaborator with Kanye West), ‘Rap Monument’ will boast a mind-shattering 30 rappers, the most ever to appear on a single cut (easily edging out The Game’s ‘One Blood’, which had 23). The roster features Pusha T, Killer Mike, Flatbush Zombies, Raekwon, Nipsie Hustle, YG, Prodigy, Problem, Action Bronson and many more.

The verses were recorded in a series of studio sessions in L.A., Atlanta and New York. The behind-the-scenes footage gives an insight into the process and just how many different styles and backgrounds are being mixed up. You get an idea of what some of the verses are going to sound like (minus the swearing) but any hint of the beat is coyly concealed. There’s no set date for the track to drop yet, or any info about a runtime, but it’ll be likely at least half an hour long, placing it well ahead of the 15 minute ‘Rapper’s Delight’, arguably the most well known long-running rap track, but behind Canibus’s 53 minute colossus, Poet Laureate Infinity, which featured 5 separate 200 bar recordings which phased in and out as the track progressed. Will this ambitious project pay off, or was it just an excuse to give away a few cases of Hennessy? Time will tell.
