Eight Minutes Of Battletoads Gameplay Revealed At Gamescom

Welcome back, Rash, Zitz, and Pimple. You’ve all been gone too long.

Battletoads

The Battletoads franchise has been missing in action for the last several years, so fans were probably thrilled by the announcement of a new Battletoads game at last year’s E3. Although we don’t yet know when it will be available, a full eight minutes of gameplay was shown off at Gamescom in Cologne, and can be viewed below.

Once you’re done ogling at the beautiful hand-drawn visuals, you’ll notice Battletoads encapsulates the arcade-style beat ’em up gameplay which made the franchise so popular to begin with. Fans will also be pleased to see that the oddball humor of the series is still very much intact, with a crude joke at 5:46 indicating this probably isn’t a game you should play with your gran.

As well as standard combat, the footage also gives us a look at one of the boss fights in the form of Porkshank, a hulking pig creature. As you can see, all three toads will need to work together to take him down. Developer DLaLa Studios have clearly created something which will be enjoyable and challenging in equal measure.

Microsoft has not yet announced a release date for Battletoads, but we look forward to getting our webbed hands on this. Given the surprising lack of Xbox One exclusive games over the past few years, we expect Battletoads to make quite a splash when it eventually lands on the system.
