7 Best Free To Play Games On Xbox One

Crossout Free to Play

You don’t need to always spend money to get an enjoyable gaming experience. The Xbox One has many free to play games. That’s right, playing these games on your Xbox One won’t cost you anything. What’s more, these games are titles that you will enjoy playing.

This may come as a shock because many gamers seem to believe that if a game is free then it must not be worth playing. That could not be further from the truth, as this article will demonstrate, by giving you a rundown of the best Xbox One games that you can play right now for free.

Gwent

Fans of the seminal Witcher series will know this one. Gwent is a standalone card based title, based on the popular card game of the same name that features in the series. This is just as fun as the full thing in the Witcher titles so if you enjoyed that and you want more of it, at no additional cost, then this could be just what you are looking for.

Phantom Dust

A commercial failure on the original Xbox, Phantom Dust has been given a new lease on life as a free-to-play title. Whilst Microsoft have said they are working on a full-blown sequel to the deck-based third person action game, this updated version of the original is the closest we will get to that so far. If you missed out on it the first time, or you just want to experience it again for free, you need to check this out.

Paladins

If Overwatch and team based FPS games are your thing, but you cannot afford the price tag of Overwatch, then give this free-to-play gem a try. Originally a success on PC, Paladins is now on consoles too.  This is a great example of a free to play title that can easily compete against paid titles of the same genre.

Crossout

This is one of my personal favorites. I loved car combat games back from the early 90s and Crossout has decided to bring this back.  Vehicular combat that is free to play never looked or played so good.  If you enjoyed games like Twisted Metal then you should really check this out.

Killer Instinct

No list of Xbox One free to play games would be complete with Killer Instinct.  The SNES fighting game has reinvented itself on Xbox as a free to play fighting game.  Whilst the game was originally dropped by its main developer, it has since been picked up again by Iron Galaxy.  They have seen fit to add more modes and content updates, which won’t cost you anything, and that’s another reason it made the list.

Hawken

This is another blast from the past. Originally on PC, this has been released again as a free to play title on Xbox One.  If you love multiplayer mech combat games where you can blow up your friends then you really have no excuse now not to play it.

World of Tanks

Tank combat has increased in popularity tenfold since the release of World of Tanks. This is due in part to it being free to play.  With 30 people online skirmishes, a whole host of historical tanks to choose from, and complete compatibility with the Xbox 360 version for playing against your friends, this rightly deserves a place in the list of the best free to play titles on Xbox One.

And there you have our list of the best Xbox One free to play titles. The beauty of free to play is that there will always be something for everyone to enjoy, and the fact that the game is free, no longer represents their poor quality, as this list shows. This list is only a fraction of the titles available, and expect to see even more high-quality titles turn free to play on the Xbox One in the very near future.
