Top 5 Twisted Showcase Moments

Gareth David Lloyd answers the phone – PETER & PAUL

Gareth David Lloyd

Our first episode and it kicked off with a bang.

Torchwood star Gareth David Lloyd is sat worrying, then the phone rings but only it’s actually his hand. Gareth physically transforms, rigid with tension as he answers his phone and our first, completely leftfield, twisted moment was born.

Ziad El Hady has the fear – FEAR OF LIVING

fol

I believe this to be a defining episode of our show. Riddled with anxiety, invisible forces attacking, our lead and only character Ian Marksman attacks himself relentlessly until he receives a DVD telling him the opposing forces are all within his internal fears.

We see Twisted Showcase as defining horror within our modern anxieties, rather than monsters, zombies and vampires (although we have featured them) we and the things that eat away at us are the modern monsters and things to fear.

Do a sheep for you –  THE IDIOT’S GUIDE TO MURDER

Night Killer

Seven bumbling minutes of an idiot telling us what a professional killer he is, and in this moment he just gives up. Co creator Rhys stars as The Night Killer and wasn’t convinced the ending would work, but the sight of him chasing sheep in slow motion, with the cameraman’s jubilance heard off camera is bonkers and shows a completely different side to the series.

It’s still twisted but in a broad comedy way. Twisted Showcase can be anything, not just playing it straight all the time. It has its absurd moments and is better because of it. You never know what you’re going to get.

Told Geoff in work about you – PRESS PLAY

Press Play

Mixing the domestic with the uncanny has been the Showcase way, and this is one of our best examples, a mysterious death after an odd date, and then our lonely protagonist leaves the body lying in his bathroom.

After arriving home from work he sits on the toilet for a cigarette and to tell his new girlfriend/ dead body that he’s been informing his work colleagues about her. It’s strangely, slightly romantic, but wildly twisted.

SOMETHING AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS

Twisted Showcase

The Climax to this episode has the lead character walking to the top of the stairs. I won’t tell you what happens there, I’ll leave that for you to find out. It feels like a great twisted moment.

The uncanny and the mundane merged together to great effect, again. The key moment to where we were going with Twisted Showcase, shame it came so late on in Series 2. Bodes well for Series 3 though. More about that coming soon.
